Projects and Installations
Supporting Habitat Creation Study of the endangered Rimatara Lori
The project objective is to reverse the tendency of population decline of the Rimatara lorikeet as only < 500 remain in the wild.
Bird Habitats donated five Thermal Haven Nest Boxes®, temperature/ humidity measuring devices and a Hollow Hog carving tool to trial.
In phase two the researchers will be testing installations of the nest boxes and a camera system which requires a direct view of each of the three nesting options simultaneously.
Habitat Creation Study by Samuel Ravatua-Smith PhD Project *Study piloted by Hāloa Production with the support of the Direction of the Environnement French Polynesia (DIREN); World Parrot Trust; NZ Parrot Trust; Rima'Ura Association & Bird Habitats Australia.
It is exciting to see that the loris show an interest in the Thermal Haven Nest Boxes®. We will keep you posted.
